High Availability and Zero Latency Message Delivery
Leveraging a "pod" (N+1) architecture that is designed to support millions of messages, the Email Defense Service provides carrier-class a vailability of filtering and delivery components. Messages traverse the network and transparently pass through complex filtering layers without latency. Sub-second processing provides for almost no delay as messages are "proxy-streamed" into the enterprise.

Component-based Filtering Layers
Several layers of filtering technology provide component-level integration within the messaging stream. A single event channel provides for universal and distributed configuration for enabling cross-filtering layer communication. Modules and components subscribe and publish related data through the event channel that provides native application distribution capabilities.

In-line Message Streaming
Email Defense Service architecture creates a proxy gateway for inbound email to the enterprise or destination mail host. The service never actually acknowledges receipt of an email message. Instead, inbound email traffic is accepted with the Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) and a connection is immediately opened to the destination recipient email server. Messages are then passed through preprocessing filtering layers as they are streamed to the recipient SMTP server. Once the recipient messaging platform signals the acceptance of the inbound email, the accepted protocol message is then passed back to the originating SMTP sender. Messages are processed in a network stream environment and are never stored to disk.

Sophisticated Quarantine Management
Messages identified as spam may be stored in an external quarantine area accessible by the Administrator. They may remove, release or safely view suspect messages. Messages that violate domain-based policies for attachments and content can also be stored in content specific quarantines.

This enables IT administrators to shift the burden of quarantine management to the end-user via email. Via this email report, end-users can simply and quickly delete, forward, white list and/or blacklist quarantined email. Through the Administrative interface IT administrators or parents have anytime access to personal quarantine areas.

Email Defense Service Portal
The Email Defense Service Portal is the permission-based interface into the MX Logic functionality and is available to Resellers and optionally to their customers.

The portal is used to:

• Set domain policies for filtering spam, and unwanted content and attachments;
• Manage message quarantines;
• Set allow and deny lists at the end user and domain levels;
• Configure user and domain aliases and preferences;
• View reports and audit trails and much more.

Multiple user roles can be assigned to provide your customers with control over different components of the service including filtering policies, quarantines and reports.
